Headlands Center for the Arts

The Headlands Center for the Art is a multidisciplinary, international arts center in the Marin Headlands in Marin County , California known for its Artist in Residence programs. The alumni network of regional, national and international artists comprises over 1,400 people.

After the National Park Service took over the disused military buildings of Fort Barry in 1972 and won several nonprofits as partners, the arts center was founded in 1982 by artists, activists and citizens as the Headlands Arts Center . In 1989 it was given its current name: Headlands Center for the Art .

The campus consists of a. from artist studios, homes, an artist library and public space.

The art center cooperates with the Richard Diebenkorn Teaching Fellowship with the San Francisco Art Institute and with the Larry Sultan Photography Award with the Museum Pier 24 Photography , the California College of the Arts and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art .
