The Tale of the Wedding Rings ( Japanese 結婚 指 輪 物語 Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari , German 'Geschichte (n) der Wedding Rings ' , English alternative title: Tales of Wedding Rings ) is a manga by the duo Maybe, which has been published since 2014. A German publication has been taking place since April 2018.
The work can be classified into the genres of fantasy, adventure and romantic comedy and is inspired by The Lord of the Rings (Japanese Yubiwa Monogatari ).

Satō and Himeno "Hime" Nonaka met 10 years ago when they suddenly appeared with their grandfather enveloped in a blazing light. Since then, both have been friends and Satō finally wants to confess his love to her. However, Hime informs him that she will have to move back to her home country with her grandfather the next day. Later he sees the light again and follows Hime into it. Satō learns that Hime is the princess Crystal Novaty Nokanatica from a parallel world and that he has to marry Prince Malmargias Gisaras. The marriage is suddenly disrupted by the attack of a monster, whereupon Hime kisses him in a hurry and thus receives the magical ring of light with which he can defeat the monster.
Hime tells him that she has loved him for a long time and that they are now married to each other. Through her kiss, she has chosen him as a hero to save her world. From now on Satō is the King of the Ring, whose job it is to marry the princesses of the five different races. Each of the princesses has a ring with which one can control an element. These were created centuries ago by the first ring king to defeat the dark king of the abyss. After his victory the King of the Rings bequeathed these rings to his five wives, who passed him on to their descendants. In addition to Hime as the Princess of the People with the Ring of Light, the others are Nephritis Lomka from the Elves with the Ring of Wind, Garnet Niedakitta from the Cat People with the Ring of Fire, Saphir Maasa from the Dragon Men with the Ring of Water and Amber Idanokan from the dwarfs with the ring of the earth. Sato's opponent is not only the king of the abyss, whose resurrection is imminent, who in turn created black rings with which he can subjugate others to dark knights in a weak moment, but also the rising empire of Gisara.

- Satō - first name unknown - is the protagonist and king of the ring ( 指 輪 王 Yubiwa-ō ), whose task it is to defeat the King of the Abyss ( 深淵 王 Shin'en-ō ). He fell in love with Hime at first sight, which is why he comes first among his wives. He's not entirely comfortable having multiple wives and distressing Hime. However, he has grown dear to them through their shared adventures, especially since his strength as the ring king depends on the strength of his connection to the ring princesses.
- Crystal Novaty Nokanatica ( ク リ ス ト ル ・ ノ バ テ ィ ・ ノ カ ナ テ ィ カ , Kurisutoru Nobati Nokanatica ) /Himeno "Hime" Nonaka ( 野 中 姫 乃 , Nonaka Himeno )
- Crystal is the princess of the human-land of light Nokanatica. She had to flee to our world to protect against the captors of the King of the Abyss, where she took the name Himeno Nonaka. Satō calls her Hime ( ヒ メ ) for short, which means "princess".
- She is torn that Satō is the ring king. On the one hand, she is delighted to have married her love from childhood, on the other hand, she is queasy at the thought of exposing Satō to great danger. In addition, she doesn't like it at all that, as the ring king, he automatically has other women next to her, which sometimes manifests itself in fits of jealousy, even though she is Sato's number one. In this way she differs from the other ring bearers, who don't mind living in a polygamous relationship that is common in this world. - Nephritis is the princess of the elven land of the wind Lomka. She is 54 years old, which is quite young due to the longevity of her species. In addition, she grew up very sheltered by her overprotective brother, so that she is treated as the youngest with her naive nature. Nephritis is introverted, anxious, and has trouble coping with large crowds. She joins Satō because it gives her the opportunity to see the world outside the palace. She has no problem having to stand in line among Satō's women, as time doesn't matter to her.
- Garnet Niedakitta ( グ ラ ナ ー ト ・ ニ ー ダ キ ッ タ , Guranāto Nīdakitta )
- Garnet is the princess of the cat-men-land of the Niedakitta fire. Their people lost their homeland in the war against the King of the Abyss, so that for generations they have traveled the world as mercenaries and traders in a vast, moving city. Despite her 18 years of age, Garnet is considered the best and strongest warrior of her people, for whom strength is the greatest good. She marries Satō after he defeated her on a "rendezvous" in battle.
- Granat is independent and generally doesn't see things closely, so she doesn't mind not being the first among Satō's wives, as she's more interested in fathering strong children with him. Like all cat people, Granat is cheerful, straightforward and very aggressive in matters of love, but is already seen by her people as an "old maid". Their distinct personality sometimes leads to friction with the very contrasting sapphire.
- Sapphire Maasa ( サ フ ィ ー ル ・ マ ー サ , Safīru Māsa )
- Saphir is the princess of the dragon man land of the water Maasa. Saphir has a twin sister, Saphira ( サ フ ィ ラ Safira ), who in principle would also have been eligible as a ring princess if Saphir had not kissed Satō on her own initiative and thus sealed the covenant - on the one hand, to give her sister the opportunity to marry her lover Mars, on the other hand, to drive the empire out of Maasa.
- She has the ability to divert part of Satō's power as the Ring King with a kiss and transform herself into a mighty dragon, but only with enough water nearby. Since sapphire has a very practical nature, she doesn't care if she's number one. As long as he fulfills his marital duties, she will do the same. Sapphire is characterized by pride, pragmatism and a high intellect.
- Amber Idanokan ( ア ン バ ル ・ イ ダ ノ カ ン , Anbaru Idanokan )
- Amber is the princess of the lost dwarf land of the earth Idanokan. In the last War of the Ring, the dwarves had borne the brunt of the fighting due to their advanced magic technology, which ultimately led to their presumed disappearance. Amber was therefore created by the survivors as an artificial being ( gynoid ) in the image of the then princess of the dwarves to protect the ring over time. In contrast to the traditions, these (or at least the women) were of tall stature.
- Amber is calm and rational, she sees it as her job to protect the King of the Ring and the princesses, drawing on the advanced technology in her body and the ancient knowledge of the dwarves.
- Alabaster ( ア ラ バ ス タ , Arabasuta )
- Alabaster is the court magician of Nokanatica and has passed himself off as Himes' grandfather in Japan. He is known around the world for his mastery of magic, which allows him to switch between worlds.
- In his youth he fell in love with the then princess of the elves - Nephritis' aunt - but their relationship broke up due to the rejection of the other elves.
- Malmargias "Mars" Gisaras ( マ ル マ リ ギ ア ス ・ ギ サ ラ ス , Marumarigiasu Gisarasu )
- Mars is the second prince of the Gisaras Empire and was actually intended to be the king of the ring. However, he is quite happy not to have to fulfill the duties of the ring king, and he supports Satō to the fullest. He has a relationship with Saphira Maasa and an older brother named Slyder, general in the army of Gisaras.

Maybe started working on the work after finishing Dusk Maiden of Amnesia . The title has been published since March 25, 2014 (Vol. 4/2014) in the Gekkan Big Gangan magazine published by Square Enix . The chapters have also been summarized in eight anthologies ( Tankōbon ) so far (as of July 2019) . Volume 4 was the 12th best-selling manga volume of the week when it was released.
An English translation has been digitally published worldwide since June 1, 2016 by Crunchyroll , as paperbacks from February 27, 2018 by Yen Press, and a French translation has been published by Kana since February 3, 2017 under the title Tales of Wedding Rings . Kazé Manga has published six volumes in German-speaking countries since April 2018.
On February 24, 2018, the art book Maybe Artworks 2008-2018 was published , which mostly deals with Dusk Maiden of Amnesia and The Tale of the Wedding Rings .
Tales of Wedding Rings VR
Square Enix gave the first chapter of the manga a virtual reality implementation . This is similar to a motion manga, i. H. the panels are played back animated with moving people and background music, while maintaining the narrative flow of the manga. However, this has been expanded to include a 360 ° representation of the surroundings, which can be viewed using virtual reality glasses , so that the viewer is placed within the work and the action takes place around him.
A version for the Oculus Rift was released on May 31, 2018 in Japanese and English, and a version for the HTC Vive is planned for June 2018.
Satō is spoken by Takumi Satō and Hime by Akari Kitō . The music was composed by Ryō Yamazaki.
