Uuskyla played in a duo with pianist Peter Hansen in the late 1970s. In 1985 he released the album Volapyk with Per Anders Nilsson and Peter Janson on Dragon ; Almost at the same time, the album Now's the "Frippe" Time was released on this label with the group Miljövårdsverket around the Swedish free jazz legend Bengt Nordström (1936-2000), of which he was a drummer in the 1980s, which was previously largely ignored by the critics . Internationally, Uuskyla appeared for the first time as a member of a large-format workshop ensemble that appeared in 1988 with Cecil Taylor in Berlin ( Legba Crossing , FMP ). In the 1990s he was mainly active in Biggi Vinkeloe's groups (in a trio with both Barre Phillips and Peter Kowald ).

Uuskyla is best known for his collaboration with the saxophonist Peter Brötzmann : In the trio with the Danish bassist Peter Friis Nielsen , Brötzmann and Uuskyla have recorded several sound carriers; In addition to four trio albums such as Noise of Wings (1999), there was The North Quartet in 2004 with the Polish saxophonist Mikołaj Trzaska . In 2006 Uuskyla and Brötzmann recorded the double album Born Broke ( Atavistic , 2008); so far (2020) two more albums by this duo have followed: “Uuskyla's style is jagged, full of twists and turns. Brötzmann adapts by using his sound from the 1970s and 1980s. "

In 2014 Uuskyla released Daydreaming Nerves on the Omlott label, a solo album that was positively received by critics (before that, Calling Everything Drawings had released a first solo album in 1997 ). In 2015, the same label released posthumous recordings with Nordström under Uuskyla's name as Winged Body . 2017 appeared with Tellef Øgrim and Anders Berg Ullr ; In 2020 the album Who, What, Where, With What, Why, How, When followed .
