Mattin

Mattin (* 1977 in Bilbao as Mattin Artiach ) is a Spanish improvisation musician (voice, computer) and author.

Mattin grew up in Getxo . At the age of 18 he moved to London for a few years to study fine arts and art history. Since 2001 Mattin has published in the field of noise and improvisation music. He was a member of bands such as Billy Bao , Deflag Haemorrhage / Haien Kontra , Josetxo Grieta , No More Music and Regulator . With Eddie Prévost and Rosy Parlane he formed the trio Sakada . He has worked with musicians and artists such as Axel Dörner , Taku Unami , Emma Hedditch , Xabier Erkizia , Lene Grenager , Oren Ambarchi , Radu Malfatti , Tony Conrad , Taku Sugimoto , Matthew Bower , Philip Best , Manuel Mota , Ray Brassier and Junko . Basically, he advocates letting music arise spontaneously and not edit it. Sometimes the interaction between the musicians is radically reduced in his recordings.

Mattin has also emerged as a writer and has written in particular about improvisation and free software ; he has argued against the importance of intellectual property. So far, Mattin has released more than 80 albums on various labels. He also runs the label wmo / r , Free Software Series and the network label Desetxea himself . Together with Anthony Iles he published the book Noise & Capitalism in 2009 . In 2017 he took part in documenta 14 .
