Lou Gare (* 16th June 1939 in Rugby , Warwickshire as Lesley Gare ; † 6. October 2017 ) was a British free jazz - tenor saxophone and violin farmer, significant impact on the development of free improvised music had.

Life

Gare first studied art at the London Art School and worked as a jazz musician with Mike Westbrook , where he approached free play. With his fellow students Eddie Prévost and Keith Rowe , he founded the influential improvisation ensemble AMM in 1965 , of which he was a member until 1977. During the time when AMM only existed as a duo of himself and Prévost (1972 to 1976), they appeared regularly and comparatively often. As a member of the London Musicians Co-op , Gare also played with Evan Parker , Derek Bailey , Barry Guy , Howard Riley and other musicians during this period . In 1977 he moved to Exeter with his family . In the 1980s he played with drummer Fred Burwood in The Exeter Free Jazz Duo . Gare continued to play with Prévost (most recently in 2002 and 2005) and at Westbrook (most recently in 2015).
