Jon Rose (* 1951 in Rochester , Great Britain ) is an improvisation artist. He plays the violin , (self-made) string instruments of all kinds and fences - as in his project with the American violinist Hollis Taylor .

biography

The Australian by choice Rose began playing the violin at the age of seven. He finished his music lessons at the age of 15 to teach himself. He has been playing, composing and studying in a wide variety of musical genres such as country music and bebop since the 1970s . He played in Italian club bands and a big band , made sound installations and plays the sitar . With his group The Relative Band, he became a central figure in the Australian improvisation scene and dedicated his life to the violin.

In 1986 Rose went to Berlin to start his project The Relative Violin, which continues to this day : the development of a total art form around this instrument. He builds and develops new forms of string instruments, is an author, festival curator and radio play maker. In 2004 he received the prestigious Karl Scuka Prize for Radio Art from Südwestfunk .

Jon Rose has worked with many greats on the international improvisation scene.
