John Horler

John Douglas Horler (born February 26, 1947 ) is a British jazz pianist and composer .

Horler comes from a musical family; his father Ronnie Horler (1920–2005) was a professional big band trumpeter and his older brother Dave is also a jazz musician. He began his studies at the age of 16 at the Royal Academy of Music . He became known through his participation in the bands of John Dankworth and Cleo Laine . In 1977 he accompanied the singer Ernestine Anderson on her recordings for the Concord label. He also played with trumpeter Harry Allen ( Someone to Light Up My Life ) as well as with Ronnie Ross and Tony Coe . He has accompanied numerous American musicians such as Chet Baker , Bob Brookmeyer , Clark Terry , Zoot Sims , Pepper Adams , Bud Shank and Shorty Rogers . In 1983 he was involved in Peter King's album East 34th Street (Spotlite). Since 1993 he has made his own albums a. for the English Spotlite label. He also played on Kenny Wheeler's album Kayak (Ah Um, 1992). In 1998 he recorded the album Moon Valley with John Dankworth , and in 2001 the Ellington Tales with Ken Peplowski .

Stylistically, it is reminiscent of Bill Evans .

He is also the uncle of Natalie Horler , who became known as the front woman of the dance trio Cascada .
