Phil Lee

Phil Lee (born April 8, 1943 in London ) is a British jazz guitarist who has also emerged in fusion and prog rock.

Live and act

Lee started out in skiff bands and then was a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra , with which he performed at the Antibes Jazz Festival . Until 1966 he was a member of the Graham Collier sextet ; then he played with Dudu Pukwana in the quartet of organist Bob Starkey. In the 1970s he was one of the bands of Henry Lowther and directed together with Tony Coe Axel ; from 1973 he played with Gilgamesh , then with National Health (in both bands he was also involved in the albums). In 1977 he toured with Charles Aznavour and in 1979 with Michel Legrandand 1983 with Gordon Beck . He also worked with Michael Garrick and Trevor Tomkins and formed a critically successful duo with Jeff Clyne . With Jim Richardson he leads the group Octopus , which includes saxophonist Bob Martin and drummers Clark Tracey and Matt Fishwick. He also recorded with Michael Gibbs (1970) and Annette Peacock (1977).

Until 1998 he was a lecturer at the Guildhall School of Music .
