The honorary title Brigade of Collective Activist Work was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was awarded in the form of a badge. The award was donated on November 1st, 1953. The award was given to socialist brigades . The prerequisite for the award was that the brigade to be honored had been at the forefront of the socialist competition in the company for the fulfillment and / or over-fulfillment of the planned tasks for a longer period of time and had performed high levels of work. The maximum number of awards was limited to 50 awards per year. The brigade was honored in a festive setting and included a collective certificate, an individual certificate for each activist, an activist pass, a cash bonus and the corresponding badge, which, moreover, corresponded to the honorary title of activist in the five-year plan . On June 16, 1960, the awards were stopped.

Appearance and wearing style

The medal is tinted bronze and shows a hammer and sickle in the middle in front of two intersecting ears of corn and symbolized rays of the sun, which extend beyond the upper edge of the medal. Above all of them the number 5 is emblazoned as a symbol of the five-year plan. The lower edge of the medal is marked by the inscription: ACTIVIST . The reverse , however, shows the four-line inscription: PEACE / AND / PROSPERITY / FROM YOUR OWN POWER, with two shaking hands shown between the third and fourth lines. In later versions of the badge, the 5 is enamelled red and the hammer black. In the year of the first award, the carrying clasp was covered with red fabric, in the middle of which there was a golden crossbar with the year of the award. Later versions of the clasp are lacquered or enamelled red and show a gold enameled bar with the also lacquered or enamelled year of the award up to 1960. The medal was worn on the upper left chest of the recipient.
