Community of socialist work

The honorary title of community of socialist work was a state award of the German Democratic Republic(GDR), which was awarded in the form of a medal. The title was donated on April 28, 1960. It was bestowed on communities in the field of administration, if they had made significant contributions to the promotion of technical progress. Primarily here the development of new technologies and their practical introduction and the implementation of new and better work processes by optimizing the work organization. The improvement had to lead to an increase in labor productivity and lower cost of ownership, as well as to be of economic benefit. The number of awards was 284 in 1960 and 655 in 1961. This title was also discontinued on March 15, 1962, and its successor was the new honorary title of Collective of Socialist Work .

Appearance

The medal in the form of a star with rounded corners was bronze until the end of 1960, then silver-plated and was 30 × 20 mm in size and showed a red enameled medallion with a hammer and compass on its obverse , each flanked by an ear of corn on both sides. Around the medallion is a writing ring with the inscription: GEMEINSCHAFT DER SOCIALISTISCHEN ARBEIT . An oak leaf is placed on each of the four corners of the star. The reverse of the medal (Sterns), on the other hand, shows the five-line inscription: SOCIALISTIC / WORK / LERNEN UND / LEBEN and underneath two horizontal oak leaves.

Carrying method

The medal was initially worn on a bronze, from the end of 1960 on a silver-plated, red-enameled clasp measuring 25 × 9 mm on the upper left side of the chest. A horizontal field measuring 17 × 4 mm has been embossed in this, which also shows the enamelled colors black, red and gold horizontally.
