Collective of socialist work
Collective Socialist Labor was a collective award in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The award was donated on March 15, 1960 and honored high production successes, special successes in socialist community work and above all in socialist competition . Forerunners were the awards as “ Brigade of Socialist Work ” and “ Community of Socialist Work ”.
The award as a collective of socialist work was given annually. The members of the award-winning collective received a medal (see illustration) with the text "SOCIALIST WORKING LEARNING AND LIVING" on the back. 1967–1971 multiple awards were additionally marked by a medal clip. From 1971 to 1975 there was a bar of honor for the uninterrupted defense of the title “Collective of Socialist Labor” over the period of the five-year plan , from 1979, after five uninterrupted defense, a special bar.
In order to be awarded the title, the collectives, brigades , departments and otherwise designated teams in business, teaching, art, culture, military etc. had to meet billable requirements. It was about the fulfillment of political, cultural and professional demands as well as compliance with socialist morals and ethics .
The title was defended annually after it was granted, but could also be revoked. In addition to the fulfillment - often over-fulfillment - of the broken down national economic plan in socialist competition, one of the requirements was that the collective z. B. also had to prove joint cultural activities. The collectives went to the cinema or theater together in order to collect the points for recognition as a collective of socialist work, this was demonstrated by descriptions of the visits in the brigade diary .
The title was awarded to collectives by the management with the consent of the works union management (BGL) or, in the case of youth collectives, with the consent of the FDJ management . The members received a certificate, the medal and a bonus, the amount of which was agreed in the company collective agreement between the management and the union management .
In 1989, 270,000 collectives with 4.8 million members had already received the award. The economic benefits of this mass movement hoped for by the political leadership failed to materialize.
