Stauffenberg Order

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stauffenberg Order was a planned but no longer realized state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which would have been donated in 1990 by the Ministry of Disarmament and Defense through the Council of Ministers of the GDR . With regard to the classification of the order and its possible classes in a state medal of honor, there is so far only one picture publication that deals with this order. Even in the GDR legal gazette from 1990 there was no corresponding publication until August 9, 1990, the last day of publication of No. 49 on the gazette mentioned. Nevertheless, the corresponding plans with regard to this order have progressed so far that it has already been produced in small numbers, possibly only for pattern embossing purposes. The single pieces available in the trade are currently traded for more than 7500 euros and are therefore worth more than z. B. Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross . With the accession of the GDR to the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany (see German reunification ), the project of this award became irrelevant. It can be assumed that the order was intended for members of the National People's Army due to the inscription on the reverse: NVA .

Appearance and wearing style

The Stauffenberg Order, named after the resistance fighter from July 20, 1944 Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, corresponds in its appearance to the Military Order of Merit of the German Democratic Republic. The bronze-colored order is radial with five points and has a diameter of 44 mm. (measured at the widest point). The obverse shows in the middle the head of Stauffenberg looking to the left with the semicircular inscription : CLAUS STAUFFENBERG , which is enclosed by two open oak leaves that are braided upwards and curled upwards. Below are two crossed sabers in the middle. The reverse of the order shows the three-line inscription: FÜR / MILITÄRISCHE / MERDIENSTE and underneath on the lower edge of the medal in the middle the inscription NVA flanked on both sides by a bent branch of laurel. The medal was worn on a light gray ribbon. An 8 mm wide black, red and gold central stripe is woven into this band on the left and right 3 mm from the hem. The interim clasp is of the same quality and, in contrast to the Military Order of Merit of the GDR, does not show a miniature of the medal in order to achieve a better visual distinction.
