The medal for loyal services in the customs administration of the German Democratic Republic was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The medal was donated on May 12, 1967 in six stages. They were awarded to all employees of the customs administration when they reached a specified uninterrupted period of service, if this had been carried out honestly, conscientiously and faithfully. This period of service was structured as follows:

  • 30 years gold-plated (level VI)
  • 25 years gold-plated (V level)
  • 20 years gold-plated (IV stage)
  • 15 years gold-plated (III level)
  • 10 years silver-plated (II. Level)
  • 5 years in bronze (1st level)

Appearance and wearing style

Levels IV to VI

The gold-plated medal with a diameter of 31.5 mm shows on its obverse, slightly shifted to the left, a rod of Mercury and, to the right of it, the years of service 30 / years , 25 / years v or 20 / years offset on the same . This symbolism is surrounded by the inscription: FOR TRUE SERVICE IN THE CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION OF THE GDR , which make up about 3/4 of the circle. The rest of the circle is closed by a branch of laurel that curves upwards from the left. The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows the GDR's national coat of arms in the middle. The medal was worn on a 24 mm wide green pentagonal clasp from the edge of which a 1 mm wide vertical golden central stripe is woven in on both sides, which is 2 mm from the hem, on the left upper side of the chest. In addition, three small gold-plated oak leaves are placed on the ribbon parallel to the edge during the 30-year service period, two oak leaves for 25 years and one leaf for 20 years. The interim brace is of the same quality.

Levels I to III

The bronze , silver-plated or gold-plated medal with a diameter of 31.5 mm shows on its obverse only a rod of Mercury surrounded by the inscription: MEDAL FOR LOYALTY SERVICES IN THE GDR CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION . In contrast, the reverse of the medal shows the GDR's national coat of arms in the middle. The medal was worn on a 24 mm wide green pentagonal clasp, in the middle of which a vertically running 4.5 mm wide central stripe is woven, which is gold for 15 years of service, silver for 10 years of service and red for 5 years of service left upper chest.
