The Military Merit Cross was donated on August 5, 1848 by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II of Mecklenburg "... for excellent evidence of bravery in the campaign against Denmark in 1848/49". It was also awarded to participants in the Baden campaign in 1849. By decree of December 24, 1870, its award was also extended to people who had not directly participated in combat. In this case the cross was worn on the red ribbon of the house order of the Wendish Crown . According to the ordinance of May 1, 1871, it could also be awarded to women who had distinguished themselves during the war.

Appearance

The medal is made of bronze and has the shape of the iron cross . On the front are the words FOR AWARD IN WAR . On the back there is the grand ducal crown in the upper cross arm , in the middle the initials FF (Friedrich Franz) and in the lower cross arm the year 1848 for the participants in the campaign against Denmark , 1849 for the participants in the suppression of the Baden Revolution.

Carrying method

The second class was worn on a ponceau red ribbon with light blue and yellow stripes on the left breast. Women decorated the award on a women's bow. The first class was worn as a plug-in cross .

The last awards were completed at the end of May 1929.
