House Order of the Wendish Crown
The house order of the Wendish Crown was donated on May 12, 1864 by the two Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg, Friedrich Franz II. And Friedrich Wilhelm , to “honor the highest honorable recognition and respect and to honor special merits” . The order lords were the Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg [-Schwerin] and Mecklenburg [-Strelitz] .
Order classes
The order consists of four classes, whereby the first class is divided into two levels:
-
Grand Cross
- with the crown in ore
- with the crown in gold
- Grand Commander
- Commander
- Knight
There was also a separate cross of merit in gold and silver as a decoration. With the insignia , the order chain could be awarded at the Grand Cross with the crown in ore .
With the exception of members of the Grand Ducal House, awards to residents were limited to:
- Grand Cross: Schwerin 10, Strelitz 3
- Grand Commander: Schwerin 25, Strelitz 6
- Commander: Schwerin 55, Strelitz 10
- Ritter: Schwerin 80, Strelitz 20
For the award of the Grand Cross to persons of non-princely status, it was necessary to hold an office that was associated with the predicate excellence or was of equal rank. The Grand Commander's Cross could only be awarded to persons of at least the rank of major general . Basically, the award was tied to membership of one of the Christian denominations publicly recognized in Germany, but the Grand Cross with the crown in ore was also awarded to Padishah Abdülaziz , for example .
Medals
The order's shield contains the Wendish crown in the middle , in the case of the Grand Cross with the crown in ore in ore, in all other classes in gold. The shield is surrounded by a red enamelled ring with the motto Per aspera ad astra (Mecklenburg-Schwerin) or Avito viret honore (Mecklenburg-Strelitz). In the case of the grand crosses the shield is surrounded by an eight-pointed star, and in the case of the grand committees by a smaller four-pointed star and is carried on the left breast.
After an amendment to the statutes of February 1916, the swords could be added to the medal insignia of class I.
