The medal for long -service employees was a state service award of the state of Schleswig-Holstein , which was donated in 1967 by the then Prime Minister Helmut Lemke in two stages, silver and gold for 40 and 50 years of service in the public service. Their awards stopped in 1993.

The round medal in the silver version consists of 800 silver hallmarks and shows the three-line inscription in the center of its obverse : FOR / LIABILITY WORK and an underlying three-leaved oak leaf with two acorns. The hallmark 800 is stamped on its petiole . The symbolism is surrounded by the above inscription: FORTY YEARS WORK ANNIVERSARY which turns into two oak leaves crossed below after about 2/3 of the handling. The reverse , on the other hand, shows the state coat of arms of Schleswig-Holstein in the center and the inscription: DER MINISTERPRÄSIDENT (above) and SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN (below). The medal was worn on the left side of the chest of the borrower on a blue ribbon with a white, red and white central stripe woven in vertically on both sides. The medal for the 50-year service anniversary is almost unchanged, but gold-plated and shows the changed inscription on its lapel: FIFTY YEARS WORK ANNIVERSARY .
