Honored employee of the State Security

The honorary title of Honored Employee of the State Security was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was awarded in the form of a medal. The title was donated on December 16, 1969; the first award ceremony took place on February 8, 1970 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Ministry of State Security . It was awarded for the appreciation and recognition of special services to the protection and security of the socialist order against so-called attacks by imperialist powers and their secret services. Furthermore also for the strengthening and consolidation of the MfS as well as for many years of exemplary commitment in this area. The maximum number of awards was limited to 20 honorary degrees per year.

Appearance

The gilded medal with a diameter of 37.5 mm shows on its obverse the symbol of the State Security shield and sword , which are enamelled in color. In the center of the shield was the small golden state coat of arms of the GDR. In addition to the sword, a red enamelled banner is shown behind the shield, the band of which extends 4 mm beyond the upper edge of the medal and the gold inscription: DESERVED EMPLOYEE . The shield itself is flanked by an oak leaf on the left and right and the inscription below: DER STAATSSICHERHEIT . The reverse of the medal shows the state coat of arms of the GDR with the inscription: FOR THE PROTECTION OF WORKERS AND FARMING POWER .

Carrying method

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a 24 × 11 mm wine-red covered ribbon. The interim clasp is of the same quality, but also shows the gold-plated symbol of the state security.
