German Post Medal of Merit

The Deutsche Post Medal of Merit was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was awarded on November 19, 1970 in three stages; Bronze, silver and gold has been donated. It was first awarded on Labor Day, May 1, 1971. The medal, which could only be awarded to individuals and not collectives, was awarded for outstanding achievements in the development of the socialist post and telecommunications system. Furthermore, also for services in ensuring the constant operational readiness of the telecommunication systems, etc. Incidentally, the maximum number of this medal was awarded, so that it can be awarded annually

  • 50 times in gold,
  • 100 times in silver (150 awards from 1986) and
  • 300 times in bronze

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze , silver-plated or gold-plated medal with a diameter of 32 mm shows a raised, embossed 15 mm wide post horn with two small flashes in the center of its obverse . This postal symbol is enclosed by a three-row laurel wreath, which, starting from the bottom, is shown open and curved upwards and around three-quarters of the way around the postal symbol. The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows the state coat of arms of the GDR in the middle, surrounded by the inscription: MERIT MEDAL OF THE GERMAN POST . The medal was worn on a 24 mm × 11 mm yellow cloth clasp on the upper left side of the chest. The level of the award can be recognized by the ribbon on the woven vertical 3 mm wide blue central stripes, which is a central stripe for the first level and three blue central stripes for the third. The interim clasp was the same as the ribbon.
