Gareth MacHale (born August 12, 1980 ) is an Irish rally driver . He drove in the World Rally Championship (WRC) from 2006 to 2009 .

Career

After MacHale had taken part in several rallies in Ireland and the United Kingdom, he gave in 2006 his debut in the World Rally Championship (WRC). In a Ford Focus RS WRC , he completed eight rallies and achieved a place in the points with a sixth place. He finished the season in 21st place overall. In 2007 MacHale took part in five WRC rallies. He started again in a Ford Focus RS WRC and scored a point with eighth place as the best result. In the world championship he was again 21. He also took part in Irish and British rallies.

Since 2008 he only took part in a WRC rally in 2009. In addition, he mostly took part in Irish rallies. In October 2010 he won the Irish Asphalt Championship for the first time in the Ford Focus WRC, which his father Austin had already won five times.

In 2008 MacHale took part in the Race of Champions .

Garath MacHale's father, Austin, is just like his younger brother, Aaron, a rally driver.
