The Race of Champions is a car racing event that was launched by the Swedish President of the IMP (International Media Production) company, Fredrik Johnsson and his partner, the former French factory rally driver Michèle Mouton (a couple until 2006) and has been since 1988 is held as an invitation tournament at the end of each year. Circuit ( Formula 1 , DTM, among others) and rally drivers from different nations compete against each other and determine the winners of the individual and country championships in driver-versus-driver races using a knock-out system .

Race of Champions 2004
In 2004 the event took place on December 4th at the Stade de France in Paris . The individual classification ( Race of Champions ) was won by Heikki Kovalainen (Finland) ahead of Sébastien Loeb (France). Michael Schumacher and Marcus Grönholm were eliminated in the semi-finals . In the Nations Cup , the French team ( Jean Alesi and Sébastien Loeb) won ahead of the Finnish team (Heikki Kovalainen and Marcus Grönholm).
In the World Champions Challenge category , Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher (Germany) prevailed against World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb 2-1.
Race of Champions 2005
On December 3, 2005, Sébastien Loeb (France ) won the individual standings in the Stade de France (Paris ) ahead of Tom Kristensen (Denmark). Marcus Grönholm (Finland) and Heikki Kovalainen (Finland) were eliminated in the semi-finals . In the team competition, Scandinavia with Mattias Ekström (Sweden) and Tom Kristensen prevailed against team France with Sébastien Bourdais and Stéphane Peterhansel and won the Nations Cup.
This year, the RoC buggy , Porsche 911 GT3 , Renault Mégane Trophy and the Citroën Xsara WRC were driven.
Race of Champions 2006
The event took place on December 15, 2006 at the Stade de France in Paris . Mattias Ekström (Sweden) won the individual ranking ahead of Sébastien Loeb (France). Colin McRae (Great Britain) and Sébastien Bourdais (France) were eliminated in the semifinals . Team Finland with Heikki Kovalainen and Marcus Grönholm won the Nations Cup and prevailed in the final against Travis Pastrana (United States), who was the only driver for the United States team.
* = Jenson Button was originally intended to be a racing driver, but could not take part because of two broken ribs.
** = Both Jimmie Johnson and reserve driver Scott Speed were ill. A new driver could not be found.
Race of Champions 2007
The event took place on December 16 at Wembley Stadium in London . The Swede Mattias Ekström won the title of Champion of Champions for the second time in a row . In the final he prevailed against Michael Schumacher . Andy Priaulx (Great Britain) and Sébastien Bourdais (France) were eliminated in the semi-finals . The German team with Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher defeated the two Finnish drivers Heikki Kovalainen and Marcus Grönholm 2-1 in the Nations Cup final . Schumacher failed because of Kovalainen after the engine of the Fiat Grande Punto died at the start.
This year, the RoC buggy , Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24, Ford Focus RS WRC 2007, the Solution F Touring Cup Car (a French silhouette touring car based on the Opel Astra H ) and the Fiat Grande Punto S2000 Abarth were driven .
In memory of the ex-rally driver Colin McRae , who had died in a helicopter crash a few weeks earlier , his world champion car, a Subaru Impreza, was placed in the middle of the track with a Scottish flag on the window. He was originally supposed to take part in the competition as a team-mate of David Coulthard and was replaced by his younger brother Alister McRae after his death.

The event took place on December 14th at Wembley Stadium in London . Overall winner for the third time was Sébastien Loeb (France). In the final he was able to prevail against David Coulthard (Great Britain). Andy Priaulx (Great Britain) and Carl Edwards (United States) were eliminated in the semifinals. The Germans Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher won the Nations Cup for the second time in a row . They won the final against the Scandinavian team (Tom Kristensen and Mattias Ekström).
The KTM X-Bow was also used for the first time.
Race of Champions 2009
The event took place from November 3rd to 4th at the National Stadium in Beijing . The ROC final was won by Mattias Ekström (Sweden) against Michael Schumacher . In the semifinals, the two were able to prevail against Jenson Button (Great Britain) and Sebastian Vettel . Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher managed the hat trick in the Nations Cup and won the final against Team Great Britain (Jenson Button and Andy Priaulx ).
Race of Champions 2010
The event took place as the 23rd Race of Champions in the ESPRIT arena on November 27th and 28th, 2010 in Düsseldorf. In the individual ranking, Filipe Albuquerque prevailed against Sébastien Loeb . Andy Priaulx (Great Britain) and Sebastian Vettel were eliminated in the semi-finals . The team ranking went again to Team Germany with Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, who won against Team Great Britain (Andy Priaulx and Jason Plato).
The Audi R8 LMS , the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup , the VW Scirocco , the “ROC Auto” (in a stronger version also as a two-seater), the KTM X-Bow , the FJ Racecar, the Solution F Prototype and the RX were driven 150 buggy.

The event took place as the 24th Race of Champions in the ESPRIT arena on December 3rd and 4th, 2011 in Düsseldorf. The team ranking went to Team Germany with Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel for the 5th time. In the individual classification, Sébastien Ogier prevailed against Tom Kristensen . The organizer announced during the event that the Race of Champions 2012 will not take place in Germany.
Hazards was with VW Scirocco , "ROC car," KTM X-Bow , RX 150 Buggy, Skoda Fabia SUPER2000 and Audi R8 LMS .
Race of Champions 2012
In 2012, the Race of Champions took place at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok on December 15th and 16th. Since this stadium is an athletics stadium, the running track offers more space than in previous years, which was reflected in the increased length of the racetrack. For the sixth time, the team ranking went to Team Germany with Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel. Romain Grosjean won the individual ranking.
The Audi R8 LMS , VW Scirocco , Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo , Toyota GT86 , “ROC Auto”, KTM X-Bow and the “Euro Racecar” were driven.
Race of Champions 2013
Also in 2013 the Race of Champions should take place in the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok. However, due to the political crisis in Thailand, the event was canceled.
Race of Champions 2014
In 2014, the Race of Champions took place on December 13th and 14th at Bushy Park in Barbados .
Race of Champions 2015
In 2015, the Race of Champions took place on November 20th and 21st at the Olympic Stadium in London .
Race of Champions 2017
In 2017 the Race of Champions took place on January 21st and 22nd in Marlins Park in Miami . It was the 28th event in the series and the first time it was held in the United States . The team classification went to Team Germany for the seventh time with Sebastian Vettel, who was supposed to compete with Pascal Wehrlein. However, Wehrlein had an accident on Saturday and, on the advice of the doctors, no longer took part in the races on Sunday. The Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya won the individual ranking because he was able to beat the Dane Tom Kristensen in both finals.
