Jan Kopecký (born January 28, 1982 in Opočno , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech rally driver .

Career

Jan Kopecký began racing in 1995. He drove in karting until 1999 . In the same year he started at the Fiesta Cup , where he was runner-up in 1999. The following year he won the championship. In 2000 Kopecký won a few races in the Pickup Freestyle and was runner-up in the Octavia Cup . There, too, he won the championship the following year. In 2001 he took part in a rally for the first time and won the national sprint rally championship in the Czech Republic. In 2002 he started with a Toyota Corolla WRC in the Czech rally championship and took part in his first rally world championship run in Rally Germany . In 2003 he finished third in the Czech rally championship with a factory-supported Škoda Octavia WRC and took part in World Championship races in Germany , Wales and the Rally Finland . In 2004 Kopecký won the Czech rally championship with a Škoda Fabia WRC . In 2005 he started again in Germany , on Corsica and in the Rallye Catalonia , where he earned his first world championship point by finishing eighth overall. In 2006 and 2007 he drove two seasons in the World Rally Championship with a Škoda Fabia WRC. Kopecký achieved the best results so far in the World Rally Championship at the 2006 Rally Catalonia and 2007 at the Rally Germany with two fifth places. In the 2008 World Rally Championship he only took part in the Mexico Rally and started in a Peugeot 207 S2000 in four rounds of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC). In the IRC 2009 he finished second with two wins and three second places in the overall ranking. He has been a works driver at Škoda since 2009 and is used in national rallies and in the IRC. In the 2011 season he first achieved four podiums and then two victories in a row at the Barum Czech Rally Zlín and the Mecsek Rally . He finished the season in second place overall.

Jan Kopecký continued his career in the ERC, where he won the championship in 2013 with six wins. Since the 2015 World Rally Championship , it has been used in WRC2 by Škoda with the Fabia R5. At the Rally Italy he finished third in WRC2 and ninth in the overall classification, for which he was awarded two world championship points in the WRC class .
