In 1980 the first rally was held as part of the World Cup in the province of Tucumán . It was organized by the Automóvil Club Argentino . The winners were the Germans Walter Röhrl and Christian Geistdorfer in a Fiat 131 Abarth. In 1981 the competition was also held in Tucumán. After a break in 1982, the location of the event moved to San Carlos de Bariloche in 1983 and the following year to the province of Córdoba, where the rally has taken place ever since. In 2007 one of the special stages took place in the Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti in Buenos Aires , another in the Estadio Olímpico Chateau Carreras in Córdoba .
