The reigning nine-time world champion Sébastien Loeb only drove four selected world championship races for Citroën (Monte Carlo, Sweden, Argentina and France).
Regulations
vehicles
The World Rally Cars are racing cars that are very similar to street cars. At least 25,000 street versions of these cars must have been sold on the world market in order for them to be used in the World Rally Championship . The cars are equipped with 1.6 liter turbo engines that produce around 300 hp . In addition, a roll cage is built into the rally car, which protects the driver and front passenger in the event of an accident. The rally cars are equipped with additional extras such as underbody protection, racing gears, aerodynamic components, safety seats and belts, carbon fiber brakes and special tires for gravel, asphalt and spikes for ice and snow. Like the road cars, the rally vehicles must also have a catalytic converter . Driving aids such as ABS , ASR and ESP must not be installed . A World Rally Car must weigh at least 1200 kilograms, including the spare wheel, excluding the driver and front passenger (1350 kilograms).
procedure
The rally week usually starts on Tuesday and Wednesday. On these two days, drivers and passengers can visit the special stages and the pace notes create. The technical acceptance of the vehicles by the FIA will take place on Wednesday . There will be a "shakedown" on Thursday. The drivers, co-drivers and vehicles are presented to the spectators in an event and the first kilometers are driven. Between 15 and 25 special stages are completed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The special stages are started at fixed time intervals. The cars don't drive against each other on the road, but against time. The driver with the fastest average time of all the special stages won the rally. A rally must end on a Saturday or Sunday and can only last for 2 or 3 days.
Points system / power stage
The point system for the first 10 riders is 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1. The points awarded for the three fastest crews on the power stage are 3-2-1 bonus points. The power stage is usually shorter, audience-friendly as possible discharged, held usually considered the beginning or the end of the rally, then perform special stage .
Rally 2 regulations
Vehicles that retire on one day of the rally due to a technical defect or accident, but can be repaired, may start again the next day with a time penalty of five minutes for each missed special stage. You are still entitled to score world championship points.
Test drives
The WRC teams have to designate their own test track for the FIA , on which they can test without restriction. Test drives outside of this named route are only allowed in Finland , France , Germany , Greece , Italy , Portugal , Spain , Sweden and Great Britain . Test drives are prohibited in other countries, as well as on special stages of rally world championship races. For test drives outside of the company's own test track, a maximum of ten tests may be completed on 42 days per calendar year.

Course of the season
81st Monte Carlo Rally
The season opener was extremely difficult for the drivers and their teams due to heavy snowfalls and icy roads. Two special stages had to be canceled due to bad weather and too many spectators. The nine-time world champion Sébastien Loeb completed the 16 special tests with the Citroën DS3 as the fastest. Sébastien Ogier finished second in VW's debut in the World Rally Championship. Ogier won the first stage with the Polo R WRC. Team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala was less lucky, he slipped off the road on the 4th stage and was eliminated. Dani Sordo achieved third place with a solid performance and due to an accident of Evgeny Novikov, who was in front of him .
61st Rally Sweden
Sébastien Ogier secured the first victory for himself and the Volkswagen team and won in Sweden with a 40-second lead over Sébastien Loeb. Ogier took over the lead of the rally on the first day. Loeb managed to get within 10 seconds of Ogier again, but then made one of his few mistakes and hit a pile of snow. Loeb and Citroën decided to abandon the attack on Ogier and secure second place. Jari-Matti Latvala won the two power stages and thus got three World Championship points for fourth place. He took the lead in the world championship. Mads Østberg comes third on the podium. Mikko Hirvonen lost 20 minutes in an accident on the first day and ended up seventeenth. Evgeny Novikov had technical problems on the last day and dropped from fifth to ninth overall.
27th Rally Mexico
The first stages of the Rally Mexico were marked by a three-way battle between Thierry Neuville, Sébastien Ogier and Mads Østberg. Mads Østberg was canceled on the first day due to technical problems. The next day, thanks to the rally 2 regulation, he was able to start the rally again with a five-minute penalty and finished eleventh in the final standings, but still won two championship points because of a victory on the power stage. Ogier drove away from the competition and won the Rally Mexico ahead of Hirvonen and Neuville. Dani Sordo took fourth place at the wheel of the Citroën DS3, from the works team in the absence of Loeb. Nasser Al-Attiyah , Chris Atkinson and Ken Block came back into the World Rally Championship after a break in fifth, sixth and seventh place.
47th Rally Portugal
Sébastien Ogier won his third rally in the 2013 season. At the beginning Mads Østberg was able to keep up with the Ford Fiesta RS WRC. However, due to a wrong record he got off the road and finished eighth in the final classification. Dani Sordo took second place, but dropped out on the sixth special stage due to technical problems. The Volkswagen drivers Ogier and Latvala took positions one and two on the last day. Ogier ran into technical problems and lost 30 seconds in one stage, and Latvala's car also stopped working properly at the end of the rally. Mikko Hirvonen took second place. The Volkswagen held out, Ogier won and Latvala was third, followed by Evgeny Novikov in fourth.
33rd Rally Argentina
After Sébastien Loeb skipped the rally Mexico and Portugal, he drove to victory in Argentina. After a mistake by Ogier, Loeb took the lead and never gave it up until the finish. Latvala, Hirvonen and Novikov drove for third place. After Hirvonen had electrical problems, Latvala drove a few quick special stages and came third. As in Portugal, Evgeny Novikov was fourth and Thierry Neuville was fifth ahead of Hirvonen.
59th Acropolis Rally (Greece)
Jari-Matti Latvala won his first rally for Volkswagen in Greece. The opening stage lasted 47 kilometers and proved difficult. Mads Østberg had to change a wheel after only around 500 meters, he had hit a concrete part on the road, which resulted in a broken rim. Ogier had problems with the fuel pump and fell behind. After the first day, Evgeny Novikov led the general classification. On the second day Novikov had a puncture and fell back. Latvala took the lead and never gave it up. He won ahead of Dani Sordo and Thierry Neuville , who were on the podium for the second time this season. In the world championship, Sébastien Ogier was leading in front of his teammate Jari-Matti Latvala.
10th Sardinia Rally (Italy)
After three stages, Sébastien Ogier was ahead of Mikko Hirvonen and Mats Østberg with over 20 seconds. After around eight kilometers, Jari-Matti Latvala had a puncture and lost a lot of time. Evgeny Novikov first damaged the rear of the Ford Fiesta and in the second special stage he was eliminated after a rollover. On the second day, Mikko Hirvonen, Mads Østberg and Thierry Neuville battled for the podium. Østberg spun and Hirvonen had tire problems while Thierry Neuville got closer and closer to Hirvonen. After a driving error, Hirvonen ended up in the ditch, which put Neuville in second place. Despite a puncture, Jari-Matti Latvala finished in third place. The order of the two power stages was also Ogier before Neuville and Latvala.
63rd Rally Finland
After the first day, Thierry Neuville in the Ford Fiesta was 5.2 seconds ahead of Sébastien Ogier in the VW Polo. The second VW Polo driver Jari-Matti Latvala was able to bury his dream of victory after the second special stage. He drove over a larger rock and damaged the rear suspension. Neuville, Ogier and Hirvonen drove equally fast in the hundredths range on the second day. Mads Østberg also touched a stone , which caused the front wheel to break. On the afternoon of the second day, Ogier took the lead as this time Neuville had a puncture. Ogier won in Finland ahead of Neuville, who climbed onto the podium for the fourth time this season, while Østberg took third place. After a few driving errors, Mikko Hirvonen stayed in fourth place at his home rally.
31st Rally Germany
After the first special stages, Sébastien Ogier took the lead from team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala. After only 1.5 kilometers in the 1st special stage, Novikov dropped out. After a driving mistake, the Ford Fiesta slipped off the road. Khalid Al Qassimi had a similar experience, he drove straight out in the first corner, but was able to continue after a turn. Ogier damaged the front suspension in an accident and Latvala had problems with the passenger door, which could no longer be closed. Later he drove into a pile of wood on the side of the road. Victory at their home rally was therefore no longer achievable for Volkswagen . Thanks to the rally 2 rule, Ogier and Latvala were able to start with time penalties again on Sunday. Dani Sordo and Thierry Neuville made the victory among themselves on Sunday. Sordo won with the Citroën DS3 WRC 53 seconds ahead of Thierry Neuville with the Ford Fiesta RS WRC.
22nd Rally Australia
Despite his victory in the Rally Germany , Dani Sordo was replaced by Kris Meeke at Citroën. After the first day, VW driver Andreas Mikkelsen was in first place ahead of Meeke. On the third day, Meeke rolled over several times and had to give up the rally. On the second day, Ogier won seven of eight special stages and took the lead in the overall standings from Hirvonen and Neuville. After a puncture, Hirvonen fell behind Neuville, which meant that Ogier still won the world championship early. Neuville also came in second in the power stage, which meant that Ogier was missing a world championship point.
4th Rally France (Alsace)
The power stage at the beginning of the Rally France decided for the first time in rally history a world championship outcome. Thierry Neuville did not manage to get the three bonus points required, so Sébastien Ogier was, after the power stage, with enough points in the lead around the World Cup, without winning any further points. After the first day, Dani Sordo was in first place in the Citroën DS3 WRC. The first eleven drivers were classified within eight seconds. Thierry Neuville took the lead on the second day, but lost it to Jari-Matti Latvala on the third day due to a small accident that resulted in a puncture. Ogier and Loeb, on his farewell rally, were third and fourth behind Sordo. On the fourth and last day, Sébastien Loeb overturned and he dropped out. He won special stages 2, 3 and 4 and a total of 900 special stages in his rally career. Ogier got faster and faster and won one special stage after the other and in the end also his home rally in front of Sordo and Latvala.
49th Rally Catalonia (Spain)
Even after winning the world title, VW Polo driver Sébastien Ogier attacked in Spain. He won all three night special stages and went into the 2nd day of the rally as the leader, ahead of team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala . Behind them were Dani Sordo with the Citroën DS3 and Thierry Neuville with the Ford Fiesta RS. Mikko Hirvonen , Andreas Mikkelsen and Evgeny Novikov battled for fifth place , and at the end of the day the three drivers were classified within 1 or 2 seconds. The second day was tactical. Sordo deliberately lost time and let Latvala go first. Latvala led the overall classification after the second day and had to start the first special stage on gravel on the third day, where he lost a little time. Ogier fell 46.5 seconds behind with a puncture. After a race to catch up on the last day, Ogier secured victory in front of his team-mate Latvala. Volkswagen thus also wins the manufacturers' championship. Dani Sordo was third after an accident.
69th Rally Wales (Great Britain)
VW had won sixteen of 22 special stages with the Polo R WRC , nine of which were Ogier, five special stages Latvala and two Mikkelsen. Ogier was in a class of his own in Wales too. After finishing first nine of 13 rallies this year, the logical conclusion was the world title. He was able to secure this in his home country France. By winning the rally in Great Britain, Sébastien Ogier and co-driver Julien Ingrassia once again underlined who dominated the 2013 rally season. When Sébastien Loeb retired from the World Rally Championship, the series winner Citroën also fell. In the coming year, Volkswagen , Citroën and Hyundai are three factory manufacturers in the World Rally Championship.
Competitions
The kilometers entered correspond to the distance of the special stages. The distance between the connecting routes between the individual WPs is not included.
