Thierry Neuville (born June 16, 1988 in Sankt Vith ) is a Belgian rally driver from Hünningen near Sankt Vith in the German-speaking Community of Belgium .

Career

Thierry Neuville drove several national rallies from 2007. In 2009 he took part in the Ypres rally in the BF Goodrich Drivers Team's Peugeot 207 S2000 . A few months later, Neuville started his first rally in the World Rally Championship as a driver of the RACB National Team in the Citroën C2 R2 Max at the Rally Catalonia , after he had already registered for the Rally Finland in 2008 but did not start there.

In 2010, the team had Automeca Solutions of Philippe Bugalski decided to support Neuville. Neuville contested five rallies in the Junior World Rally Championship in the Citroën C2 S1600 with co-driver Nicolas Klinger . He won his first JWRC victory at the 2010 Rally Bulgaria . He reached the seventh championship place in the JWRC. During the season he also made it into the Intercontinental Rally Challenge , in which he drove parallel to the JWRC. In the Peugeot 207 S2000 from Kronos Racing , he took part in six IRC rallies. After Neuville had scored his first points at the Rally Sardinia , he achieved his first podium result with third place at the Ypres rally. However, he also had to complain about several failures as a result of accidents. At the end of the season he finished ninth in the overall ranking of the IRC.

In 2011 Neuville started his second IRC season for Kronos Racing. At the beginning of the season he got a new co-driver in Nicolas Gilsoul . At the 2011 Islas Canarias Rally , Neuville finished third. The following Tour de Corse 2011 he led almost continuously and he scored his first victory in the IRC. This made him the youngest driver to ever win an IRC rally. After Neuville won the San Remo Rally and finished sixth at the Scotland Rally , he was third in the championship. In the final statement, he finished fifth with 115 points, as he was eliminated at the last run in Cyprus.

As a Hyundai works driver, Neuville won the Rallye Deutschland , his first victory in the top rally class . In the world championship Neuville finished sixth with 105 world championship points.

Thierry Neuville started the 2015 World Rally Championship with the Hyundai i20 WRC from last year. In the Monte Carlo Rally he managed a fifth place and in Rally Sweden he missed the victory only by 6.4 seconds. The modified i20 WRC was used from the Rally Argentina .
