Rally Italy in Sardinia

The 16th Rally Italy was the eighth round of the FIA - World Rally Championship 2019 . It lasted from June 13 to 16, 2019 and a total of 19 special stages were driven.

report

The eighth world championship round in the 2019 World Rally Championship only brought the decision about victory or defeat a few kilometers before the finish line of the final special stage. Due to damage to the power steering of his Toyota Yaris WRC, Ott Tänak lost the Rally Italy to Dani Sordo (Hyundai). Sordo was all the more pleased with the unexpected victory, since the Spaniard was only able to celebrate the second rally win in the WRC in his career since his first and so far only victory at the Rallye Deutschland 2013 . Before the Rally Italy, Teemu Suninen had the experienced Jarmo Lehtinen as a co-driver instead of Marko Salminen. The duo harmonized straight away in the Ford Fiesta WRC. After good times on all three days, Suninen was rewarded with second place, the best result to date in his WRC career. Team-mate Elfyn Evans completed M-Sport's good team result in fourth . Hyundai part-time driver Andreas Mikkelsen , who shared the car with Sébastien Loeb for the 2019 season , came back in third place. On Sunday, Mikkelsen won all four special stages and the power stage. Despite his tragic final at the Rally Italy in Sardinia, Tänak took the lead in the championship standings, as Sébastien Ogier (Citroën) missed the points after an accident on Friday and Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) only crossed the finish line in sixth after a poor performance came. Six rallies before the end of the season, the three drivers were only separated by seven points.
