The FIA - World Rally Championship in 1986 was in January 18, Monte Carlo started and ended on 7 December in the United States . A total of 13 world championship races were held on four continents. The Finn Juha Kankkunen won the world title for the first time.

report

The 1986 World Rally Championship was overshadowed by a number of fatal accidents that resulted in the demise of high-performance Group B cars . At the Rally Portugal, Joaquim Santos collided with a group of spectators. In this accident alone, three people died and over 30 were injured. As a result, all works teams withdrew from the Rally Portugal. Henri Toivonen and his co-driver Sergio Cresto had a fatal accident at the Corsica Rally , and the drastic safety defects of the vehicles became apparent in this accident. On the same day, a ban on Group B for the 1987 World Rally Championship was announced. The Audi and Ford works teams then withdrew from the World Rally Championship. The San Remo Rally was completely canceled. The Peugeot team was initially disqualified, but the vehicles complied with the rules, as it turned out during a follow-up inspection. The Ivory Coast Rally was not part of the manufacturers' championship, so it was left out by all works teams.
