The FIA - World Rally Championship in 2001 was in January 19, Monte Carlo started and ended on 25 November in the UK . A total of 14 world championship races were held on four continents. Richard Burns became world champion. He overtook Colin McRae and Tommi Mäkinen with a third place in the last World Championship race .
