history

2000 to 2003

In 2000 , Hyundai tried to gain a foothold in the World Rally Championship . The team first took part in the Sweden 2000 Rally . Despite constant further development, Hyundai never managed to catch up with the established teams, and only a few world championship points were scored. A fourth place in the 2001 Rally Great Britain was the best result. During the current 2003 season, Hyundai withdrew from the World Rally Championship and put the Hyundai Accent WRC in the museum.

2014

The Hyundai i20 WRC at the Geneva Motor Show 2014

In 2013 Hyundai Motorsport decided to re-enter the World Rally Championship for the 2014 season . With the Hyundai i20 WRC model, a vehicle was developed that was on the level of the Volkswagen Polo R WRC or the Citroën DS3 WRC . Despite the relatively short preparation time, Thierry Neuville came third in the Rally Mexico . At the Rallye Deutschland , Neuville's first victory followed in front of team-mate Dani Sordo .

Beyond world rally championships

In addition to its involvement in the World Rally Championship , Hyundai Motorsport develops rally and touring cars for customer racing .

The first touring car based on the i30 N was developed with touring car size Gabriele Tarquini . The TCR vehicle has a 250 kW (340 hp) engine with a maximum torque of 410 Nm as well as 380 mm internally ventilated brake discs with 6-piston Brembo brake calipers at the front; the price is around 152,000 euros.

In 2019, Max Hesse and the Engstler team won the TCR Germany driver and team standings.

24h race

In 2017, Hyundai took part in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring with two Hyundai i30Ns. Hyundai took part again in 2018 and 2019. In the 2019 qualification, the i30 Fastback achieved second place in the "V2T" class for near-series vehicles. Despite a collision, the Engstler team was able to achieve third place in this class.
