Reports

Day 1 (Friday, September 12th)

On the first day of the Rally Australia , the lead changed four times between Jari-Matti Latvala (VW), Kris Meeke (Citroën) and Sébastien Ogier (VW). At the end of the day, Ogier was in front with a minimal lead over Latvala of 0.4 seconds and Andreas Mikkelsen (VW / +3.5 seconds). Meeke won the second and third special stages. The gaps were extremely tight all day. By the evening Meeke was able to finish fourth in the classification, 4.1 seconds behind Ogier. Ogier won the two super stages (SS 7 and 8), each of which was only 1.56 kilometers long. However, it was precisely in these special stages that Ogier gained the lead over the competition. On the fifth special stage, Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) hit a stone and part of the rear suspension broke. Neuville finished the day in seventh place ahead of Robert Kubica (Ford), who was struggling with steering problems.

Day 2 (Saturday, September 13th)

On the evening of the second day, Volkswagen was able to book a triple tour. Sébastien Ogier was 11.8 seconds ahead of Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen . Because track abbreviation got Kris Meeke (Citroen) 61 second penalty and dropped back to fifth place. Mikko Hirvonen (Ford) was the best non-VW driver in fourth place.

3rd day (Sunday, September 14th)

With the triple victory in the Rally Australia , Volkswagen secured the manufacturers' title three world championship races before the end of the 2014 season . Ogier won by 6.8 seconds over Latvala and 1:18 minutes over Mikkelsen. Ott Tänak and his co-driver Raigo Mölder came off the track in the Ford Fiesta RS and rolled over. Among other things, the door on the driver's side was pushed in. After minutes of uncertainty, it was clear that the two could free themselves from the wreck. Mölder was uninjured, and Tänak was diagnosed with a concussion after a medical check-up.
