Reports
1st day (Friday, October 3rd)
Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen were in front at the Rally France after the first day. Latvala and Mikkelsen set all the best times for Volkswagen on Friday, Latvala won four special stages and Mikkelsen three special stages. In the evening Latvala was in the lead with 8.2 seconds ahead of the overall standings. Sébastien Ogier could have become world champion at home. However, on the first day of the rally he suffered several setbacks. Ogier lost more than four minutes in the overall standings due to a defective shift sensor. After co-driver Julien Ingrassia made a mistake during a time check while stamping, the duo received an additional penalty of four minutes. With almost nine minutes behind on the first day, Ogier and Ingrassia could hardly win the rally.
Quote from Jari-Matti Latvala: "I dream of winning an asphalt rally and today I made a good step in that direction."
Day 2 (Saturday, October 4th)
The focus of the second day was the duel for fourth place between Dani Sordo (Hyundai) and Robert Kubica (Ford). Former Formula 1 driver Kubica was faster than Sordo all day and he came within nine tenths of a second. Jari-Matti Latvala started Sunday with a lead of 28 seconds over his Volkswagen team-mate Andreas Mikkelsen . Kris Meeke (Citroën) was in third place. The greatest tension was in the chasing field. Mikko Hirvonen (Ford) also expected fourth place, as he was only 12.9 seconds short of Sordo.
3rd day (Sunday, October 5th)
Jari-Matti Latvala showed a convincing and sovereign performance over the past three days, he made no mistakes and took his first victory on asphalt. With this victory, Latvala postponed the title decision in the drivers' championship. He is 27 points behind Ogier. Sébastien Ogier finished his home rally in 13th place and won three points for the world championship thanks to the fastest time in the power stage. Robert Kubica showed his best rally and finished in fourth place. However, just before the end he made a mistake. Kubica flew off the slightly damp road in the power stage. The Ford Fiesta RS WRC got stuck between the trees and dug into the earth. With Kubica's departure, Dani Sordo inherited fourth place. That made the Spaniard the best Hyundai driver. M-Sport driver Elfyn Evans (Ford) caught up with Mads Østberg (Citroën) in the last special stage and finished sixth.
Alastair Fisher (Citroën) won the Rally France in the junior classification (JWRC) of the World Rally Championship (WRC). The 2014 championship title in this class was secured with fourth place by Frenchman Stéphane Lefebvre with co-driver Thomas Dubois , who just like Fisher drove a Citroën DS3 R3T.
