Mads Østberg (born October 11, 1987 in Fredrikstad ) is a Norwegian rally driver . He is currently driving in the World Rally Championship (WRC) for the Citroën Total Abu Dhabi World Rally Team .

Career

At the age of 13, Mads Østberg drove various local rallies alongside his father Morten Østberg in Norway as a co-driver. In 2004 he sat behind the wheel of a rally car for the first time. In 2006 he made his debut in the World Rally Championship and drove a Subaru in three World Championship races . In the 2007 World Rally Championship he contested six and in the 2008 season seven world championship races.

In May 2009, his co-driver Ole Kristian Unnerud withdrew from the duo. As a temporary solution, Østberg's partner Veronica Engan, a successful co-driver in Norway in national series, took the place in the passenger seat. After that, Østberg teamed up with the Swede Jonas Andersson.

In the 2011 World Rally Championship he achieved his first podium finishes with a second place at the season opener in Sweden and at the end of the season in Wales . Østberg celebrated his first victory at the rainy Rally Portugal 2012.

In the 2013 season , the Norwegian competed in the Qatar M-Sport Rally Team's Ford Fiesta RS WRC . In 2014 Mads Østberg moved to the French team Citroën World Rally Team . There, Østberg was rated fifth in the 2014 World Championship. He finished second at the Rally Italy and achieved the best result of the season. At the Rally Mexico 2015 and the Rally Argentina 2015 he finished second again and finished the season in fourth place. Østberg signed a contract with M-Sport for the 2016 World Rally Championship .
