Race report

After the final special stage on the streets of Hagenau, Sébastien Loeb had 35.7 seconds ahead of team-mate Dani Sordo , who finished second to clinch the one-two for the Citroën works team. Citroën had thus won the manufacturer's title early. After their 60th victory in the WRC, Sébastien Loeb and co-driver Daniel Elena were crowned world champions for the seventh time in a row. Loeb / Elena celebrated the world championship title in Loeb's hometown in Hagenau to the enthusiasm of tens of thousands of spectators.

Petter Solberg , also a privateer driving a Citroën C4 WRC, secured third place. Solberg was under pressure from Jari-Matti Latvala ( Ford ) until the end . But since the 19th special stage had to be canceled for safety reasons due to too many spectators, Latvala hardly had a chance to catch up with Solberg. Latvala finished fourth, 12.5 seconds behind Solberg. Ford team-mate Mikko Hirvonen could not keep up with the pace of the leading group on muddy and slippery roads after heavy rain and lost the connection during the rally. He finished fifth, over two minutes behind.

Sixth place went to Citroën Junior Sébastien Ogier . He fought for the podium until Saturday afternoon. Then he suffered a suspension damage and had to end Saturday early and start on Sunday with a large deficit.
