The 58th Rally Sweden kicked off the 2010 World Rally Championship . It was the first and only world championship run of the season on gravel roads covered with snow and ice. The rally took place from February 11th to 14th. The Rally Sweden was the first World Championship round in history to be driven by both the Production Car Rally World Championship and the new Super 2000 World Rally Championship. A new point system has also been introduced for all classes. The system provides 25 points for the winner, 18 for second, 15 for third, 12 for fourth, and then ten, eight, six, four, two and one point for tenth.

Race report

Mikko Hirvonen (Ford) won the rally and celebrated his twelfth victory in the World Rally Championship. The reigning world champion Sébastien Loeb (Citroën) finished second and lost around 42 seconds to the Finn. Hirvonen's team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala came third on the podium. Marcus Grönholm was rated 21st on his comeback. 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen (Citroën) drove the second WRC rally in his career and the first at the wheel of a top-class rally car. Raikkonen lost over half an hour to the leader when his car got stuck in a soft wall of snow, he had to dig up the car. He couldn't make up for the lost time and finished the rally in 29th place overall.

The SWRC class won Per-Gunnar Andersson before Janne Tuohino and Martin Prokop , the long delivered an exciting fight. In the PWRC class , Patrik Flodin won by more than a minute over Anders Grøndal . The Portuguese Armindo Araújo placed third overall, five minutes behind Flodin.
