The FIA - World Rally Championship in 1983 was in January 22, Monte Carlo started and ended on 23 November in the UK . A total of 12 world championship races were held on four continents. Hannu Mikkola from Finland won the world title for the first and only time. For the first time, a driver with an all-wheel drive vehicle, the Audi quattro , won the World Rally Championship. At the same time, the Lancia 037 is still the last rear-wheel drive vehicle to win the manufacturers' championship.
