The FIA - World Rally Championship in 2008 was in January 24, Monte Carlo started and ended on 7 December in the UK . A total of 15 world championship races were held on four continents.

The drivers' championship in the world championship was decided before the last race in Great Britain. Defending champion Sébastien Loeb with co-driver Daniel Elena was enough third place at the Rally Japan to secure the title early. For Loeb it was the fifth world championship title in a row, making him the sole record world champion of the WRC up to then. At the last race of the season in Great Britain , the Citroën Total World Rally Team won the Manufacturers' World Championship. The first and third places of the Citroën works drivers Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Sordo were enough to win the manufacturers' championship for the fourth time after 2003 , 2004 and 2005 .
