American Basketball Championship 2007

The American Basketball Championship 2007 (officially: FIBA Americas Championship 2007 ) was the 13th edition of this tournament and took place from August 22nd to September 2nd, 2007 in Las Vegas ( Nevada , USA ). The tournament was also about qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Games . The two finalists qualified directly for the games, the teams in places 3 to 5 will take part in a qualifying tournament in July 2008.

A total of 10 teams took part in the 2007 American Championship .

Preliminary round

The following groups were drawn in Las Vegas on March 21, 2007 :

In the preliminary round, five teams played against each other in two groups. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point.

The top four of the two groups qualified for the quarter-finals, whereby the results of the preliminary round were then included.

The USA and Argentina qualified directly for the 2008 Olympic Games . Puerto Rico , Brazil and Canada were able to secure their participation in the qualifying tournament in July 2008.

For MVP of the tournament was Luis Scola selected. The Argentine was able to achieve an average of 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the ten games . He had a hit rate of 55.7 percent from the field and converted 72.1 percent of his free throws.
