Michael Redd (born August 24, 1979 in Columbus , Ohio ) is a retired American basketball player. Redd played 11 years for the Milwaukee Bucks in the North American professional league NBA , as well as 1 year for the Phoenix Suns . The 198cm tall Redd played the shooting guard position and was one of the top scorer in the NBA in the 2000s.

College career

Redd played until 2000 at Ohio State University , where he was primarily known as a defensive specialist. He was the best offensive player there for three years. In these three years he reached 19.6 points. In his sophomore year, he led Ohio State into the Final Four . In the 2000 NBA Draft , he was drafted in 43rd place by the Milwaukee Bucks.

NBA career

In his first three years with the Bucks, Redd was Ray Allen’s substitute until he was sent to the Seattle SuperSonics on February 20, 2003 .

After the Allen trade, Redd got the role of the starting shooting guard and has since shown a continuous increase in performance. In the 2003/04 season he was elected to the East Team of the NBA All-Star Games and after the end of the season into the All-NBA Third Team.

After the 2004/05 season, Redd's contract with the Bucks ran out. As a talented young player, Redd has been courted by numerous teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers . However, Redd decided on August 13, 2005 for the Bucks, which could offer him the highest contract amount.

On November 11, 2006 Redd scored a career record against the Utah Jazz with 57 points. This season, Redd scored 26.7 points per game, the third highest point average of the season after Kobe Bryant and Gilbert Arenas .

On January 25, 2009, he suffered a serious knee injury, so that the season was over for him. He returned for the 2009-10 season, but injured his knee again on January 10, 2010, so he could only complete 18 games for the Bucks. After 14 months of injury, Redd returned to the NBA on March 28, 2011. He completed 10 games and scored 4.4 points per game.

On December 29, 2011, Redd signed a one-year contract with the Phoenix Suns . For the Suns he scored 8.2 points in 52 games.

In the fall of 2013, Redd announced his retirement from professional sports. In his twelve-year career, he scored 19.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.

Redd has played for the United States national basketball team since 2007 . In the national team he achieved an average of over 15 points. In the 2008 Olympic qualification, he set a new record against the Puerto Rico team , as he scored the most 3-point hits in a game for the US team.
