The Citroën C2 is a four-seater small car produced by the French car manufacturer PSA Peugeot Citroën from autumn 2003 to the end of 2009 . The predecessor of the three-door model is the Citroën Saxo .
The C2 was based on a shortened platform of the Citroën C3 and was manufactured together with this in Aulnay-sous-Bois near Paris. The plant has been producing Citroën cars since 1973 and manufactured 283,100 vehicles in 2005.
Model history
The C2 was offered in six versions from October 2003. All C2 have ABS with electronic brake force distribution , at least four airbags , electric windows (not available in all models), electric power steering and central locking.
The basic model is the Tonic , followed by the VTR (only as a petrol engine model with 54 kW ) and the VTS models with the two most powerful petrol and diesel engines with 80 kW and 90 kW respectively .
The VTR model has, among other things, sports seats, air conditioning with fully automatic control and pollen filter, leather steering wheel, CD radio, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors and fog lights; The two VTS also have an improved braking system with internally ventilated discs at the front and rear disc brakes instead of drum brakes. With head airbags and ESP (including traction control ), which are also standard on the VTS, the other models (HDI 70 only head airbags) can be optionally equipped.
optics
Particularly noticeable on the body of the C2 are the side windows cut in opposite directions, the exposed front fenders and the wide hatchback with the two-part tailgate - half of it opens up as usual, the other half folds down. According to the manufacturer, the lower flap carries 100 kg, which makes loading the trunk easier.
In the interior, the vehicles built before the facelift stand out with their brightly colored seat covers, gear sticks and door handles. For a surcharge, the C2 has rear sliding single seats.
Model maintenance
A facelift of the car was presented in October 2005 . The newer version has a new dashboard, clear glass taillights and new equipment options as well as a CAN bus system. As with the Citroën C3, a Stop & Start version was offered in conjunction with Senso Drive (shifting without clutch) and the 1.4-liter engine with 16 valves and 65 kW (88 hp). Stop & Start means that the car automatically switches off when the brake pedal is depressed and starts again when it is released.
In June 2008 the C2 underwent another facelift, in which especially the front was refreshed with a newly designed radiator grille and a wider brand logo.
In March 2009 the Rapid Exchange of Information System of the EU published that a recall campaign for the C2 with a production date between March 15 and 19, 2008 will be carried out in Germany because the rear seats could come loose in a collision and pose a danger.
The successors to the C2 and C3 made their debut at the IAA in Frankfurt in autumn 2009 . While the successor to the C3 retained the old name, the three-door version was given its own name, which is intended to compete with the Mini and Alfa Romeo MiTo as an upgraded version of the C3 .
The official successor to the C2 has been called the DS3 since March 2010 .
Technical specifications
Three gasoline engines and two common rail diesel engines are available. All correspond to the Euro 4 emission class ; the C2 HDI 110 FAP (HDI, High Pressure Direct Injection ) with particle filter (FAP, Filtre à Particules) also has the PM5 particle reduction level.
