The Citroen Pony (or Namco Pony) is a vehicle , on the basis of the 2CV at Namco motor in Greek Thessaloniki was manufactured 1975-1982.
history
In the 1960s, Namco was looking for a parts supplier to manufacture a small car . Finally, an agreement was reached with Citroën, who worked with local partners in numerous countries, including the Ivory Coast ( Baby Brousse ), Iran ( Mehari , not to be confused with the European model ), Chile ( Yagan ), Vietnam ( Dalat ) and in Portugal with the Citroën FAF produced there (whose name stands for “Facile à Fabriquer, Facile à Financer” - in German, for example, “easy to build, easy to pay”).
The pony was very successful as a niche product, so that cars similar to the MAVA-Renault were soon built. The car was exported to many countries including the USA . In 1978 the import to Germany began , the vehicle cost 10,995 DM . In 1982 the production of the model was stopped and a successor with a revised design and Ford technology was offered. There were now three petrol engines and one diesel engine to choose from .
vehicle
The designer from the Greek Georgios Michael designed vehicle has a body bent out mostly and welded steel sheet work . The chassis was supplied by Citroën and shortened by 5 cm at the rear at Namco, and the technology also came from the Citroën 2CV. The 0.6 liter two-cylinder boxer engine developed 29 hp (21.3 kW). For cost and manufacturing reasons, only a few body parts are deep-drawn . The vehicle was offered in three versions: PONY ST, PONY LS, PONY LS Pallas. A hardtop was also available as an accessory .
