The Citroën Spacetourer is a van from the French car manufacturer Citroën that was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016 . The model is largely identical to the Peugeot Traveler , the Toyota ProAce Verso and the Opel Zafira Life . All three were developed jointly by PSA Peugeot Citroën and Toyota and are visually and technically related to Citroën Jumpy 3, Peugeot Expert 3 and Toyota Proace 2, as well as Opel Vivaro C. These models are built at Sevel Nord in the PSA plant in Valenciennes . In the model hierarchy, the Spacetourer also replaces the Citroën C8 , which was no longer produced in 2014, and the Traveler replaces the Peugeot 807 , which was also discontinued in 2014 , while the Zafira Life also replaces the Opel Zafira C, which was produced until 2019 .

The Vans Spacetourer and Traveler as well as Toyota ProAce Verso and Zafira Life are based on the commercial vehicle versions Citroën Jumpy, Peugeot Expert, Toyota Proace and Opel Vivaro. Their predecessors were developed by PSA together with Fiat and in turn came from the joint Eurovan development started in 1994 . Fiat merged with Chrysler to form Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 2009 . This allowed Fiat to take over Vans from Chrysler for its own model range, while at the same time the market for vans in general began to shrink as a result of the development towards SUVs . The Fiat Ulysse was therefore discontinued in 2011 and the Lancia Phedra in 2010 and both were replaced by models from the new group merger .

In 2012 Fiat announced that it was no longer interested in a joint successor development for commercial vehicles, while production of the Fiat Scudo should continue at PSA until 2016. PSA found a new cooperation partner in Toyota. Toyota urgently needed a successor model for the Hiace XH10 , which had been withdrawn from most European markets since 2010 because of its outdated technology and the resulting drop in sales. Therefore, from 2013 the model was also produced for Toyota under the name ProAce as a panel van and station wagon. At the same time, the development of a joint successor model began under the project name KZéro. Right from the start, work was also carried out to create a competitive model for the successful VW Multivan and other competitive offers. In 2019, Opel / Vauxhall joined as an additional cooperation partner, offering a van on the same basis under the name Opel Zafira Life / Vauxhall Vivaro Life ; In contrast to the other three, it is made at Vauxhall's main plant in Luton (England).

After the presentation of the battery-electric Jumpy in May 2020, Citroën also presented the Spacetourer with the powertrain from the Peugeot e-208 in the following month . It should go on sale at the end of 2020. Two different battery sizes are available. The 50 kWh variant enables a range according to WLTP of 230 km, the 75 kWh variant 330 km.

Vehicle characteristics

All models are based on PSA's EMP2 platform, on which all PSA cars are built. The design of the models is based on the Citroën Tubik 2011 Citroën study .

The Spacetourer is available in three lengths (XS, M, XL) and two different heights. There are big differences in the choice of internal materials. Significantly higher quality materials are used here than in the variants designed as commercial vehicles. A special version for passenger transport offers four seats in the rear, depending on the equipment, which are arranged for conferences.

In addition, seven individual seats and a total of nine seats are possible, which can be moved and rotated. If the seats are removed, the trunk volume is up to 4900 liters. Depending on the equipment line, the sliding side doors open at a surcharge or electrically as standard, depending on the version automatically by moving the foot and using the key in the pocket (“keyless system”). The maximum height is 1.94 meters. Up to 74 liters of storage space can be used in the various small compartments.

The equipment includes a seven-inch touchscreen, as well as an infotainment system with 3D maps, voice input and real-time traffic data. Mirror screen function, Apple Carplay and Android Auto are also available depending on the version.

In addition to ESP are Brake Assist (EBA), Totwinkelwarner, lane departure warning , traffic sign recognition , distance warning , active cruise control and emergency braking part of standard equipment, further depending on equipment rain and light sensors , Start-Off and parking aid . There is also a head-up display .

The Citroën Spacetourer is powered exclusively by common rail injection diesel engines. They produce from 88 kW (120 PS) to 130 kW (177 PS). The standard consumption is specified at 4.9 to 6.1 liters per 100 km, the CO ₂ emissions at 128 to 161 g / km. In addition to a manual transmission, an eight-speed automatic transmission is also available for the most powerful engine variant.

Citröen Spacetourer Hyphae

Citröen also presented a study called Spacetourer Hyphen, which essentially has a higher body, underbody protection and switchable all-wheel drive or hang-on drive from the all-wheel specialist Automobiles Dangel . "Hang-on" means that the front wheels are normally driven and the rear axle is only assigned power when the front slips. In addition to chassis modifications for off-road use, Dangel's extended range also includes a briefly translated first gear and locking or brake differentials for the rear axle. The concept vehicle is powered by a diesel engine with 110 kW (150 PS) and a manual six-speed gearbox.

Compared to the series, the interior has been further refined in a colorful color scheme with partly asymmetrically designed interior. Hyphen is named after a French band.
