FCA press conference at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show

The Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (FCA) is an automobile manufacturer with registered office in Amsterdam , and operational headquarters in London , the result of the merger of the Italian Fiat SpA and American US Chrysler Group LLC was created. The company's share is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange in the FTSE MIB and on the New York Stock Exchange . The company was founded following the complete takeover of Chrysler by Fiat in January 2014. Since then there has been FCA Germany AG and FCA Bank Deutschland GmbH in Germany . The group also includes Comau Robotics , Magneti Marelli and the metal processor Teksid .

With a turnover of 129 billion US dollars and a profit of 4.5 billion US dollars, Fiat Chrysler is the 128th largest company in the world according to Forbes Global 2000 (as of fiscal year 2017). The company had a market capitalization of around USD 35 billion in mid-2018, and in mid-2020 the market capitalization was only around USD 13 billion.

history

On January 29, 2014, the Board of Directors decided that Fiat will relocate its legal headquarters to the Netherlands and, in addition to its previous listing on the Milan Stock Exchange , will also be traded on the New York Stock Exchange from October 1, 2014 . For this purpose, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (FCA) was founded, to which Fiat SpA was merged at a later date. In addition to its headquarters in the Netherlands, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles also has a headquarters in London ( Great Britain ) for tax reasons . Fiat Chrysler has offices in the Netherlands, but still controls the central business such as research, development and finance from the previous offices in Turin and Auburn Hills . Tax advantages are the motive for being based in the Netherlands.

At the end of 2014 it was announced that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles plans to go public with its 90 percent subsidiary Ferrari in mid-2015. 10 percent of the shares are to be placed on the stock exchange and the rest to be distributed to the FCA shareholders. Piero Ferrari , the founder's son , still holds ten percent of Ferrari .

In an investigation in October 2015, the European Union's Competition Commission came to the conclusion that tax deals between Fiat and the Luxembourg state are illegal. Fiat uses so-called tax rulings to downgrade its tax payments. The car company has to pay up to 30 million euros in taxes. The illegal tax agreement between Fiat and Luxembourg became public in the wake of the so-called Luxembourg leaks .

On July 21, 2018, long-time CEO Sergio Marchionne was replaced by Mike Manley for health reasons . Sergio Marchionne died a few days later on July 25, 2018 in Zurich.

After talks about a cooperation with Renault failed in spring 2019, Fiat Chrysler and the French Groupe PSA announced their intention to merge on October 31, 2019 . This would create the fourth largest auto company in the world in terms of sales. On December 12, 2019, the PSA supervisory board gave the green light for the merger. On 15 July 2020 it was announced that the company name after the completion of the merger of Groupe PSA and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles parking Antis should read. The merger is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2021.
