The Prysmian SpA is an Italian cable manufacturer with headquarters in Milan . The company is the largest cable manufacturer in the world and is listed in the FTSE MIB share index.

Prysmian is the world's largest cable manufacturer and operates 112 production and 25 research facilities in 50 countries with around 30,000 employees.
The products include fiber optic cables , telecommunications, energy and control cables, which are resistant to high temperatures, fire, ionizing radiation and chemical substances and which are produced as underground cables , submarine cables , overhead conductors as well as standard and special electrical cables .
Prysmian is a shareholder of the industry portal Voltimum .
history
On July 28, 2005, the Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli sold its cable activities with an enterprise value of € 1.3 billion to financial investors under the leadership of the US investment bank Goldman Sachs , who formed Prysmian SpA .
On June 1, 2008, the German subsidiary Prysmian Kabel und Systeme GmbH ( Berlin ) took over the cable manufacturer Facab Lynen GmbH & Co. KG in Eschweiler and operated it under the name Prysmian-Kabelwerk Lynen until the end of 2012. In Germany, Prysmian still has plants in Berlin, Neustadt bei Coburg , Neumünster , Nuremberg , Schwerin and Wuppertal .
On April 2, 2014, the European Commission fined 11 manufacturers in a cartel for high-voltage energy cables (underground cables and underwater cables) with fines totaling almost 302 million euros. Prysmian received a fine of around 104.61 million euros.
In December 2017, the takeover of the competitor General Cable by Prysmian was announced. As a result of this acquisition, General Cable ceased its listing.
