On July 1, 2003, BPU (Banche Popolari Unite) was created through the merger of the financial companies Banca Popolare di Bergamo-CV , Banca Popolare Commercio e Industria and Banca Popolare di Luino e Varese .
In 2006, BPU (Banche Popolari Unite) took over Prestitalia . On April 1, 2007, the merger with Banca Lombarda took place , from which UBI Banca emerged .
