The Unipol Gruppo SpA is an Italian insurance and financial services company with headquarters in Bologna . The company was founded in 1963 and is mainly active in insurance and banking.

history

From 2000 the Unipol Gruppo began to expand by taking over other Italian insurance companies. Among them were z. E.g .: MEIE Assicurazioni , AURORA Assicurazioni , NAVALE Assicurazioni , BNL Vita and MMI Group .

In 2003 Unipol acquired the divisions of the Swiss company Winterthur that extended to the Italian insurance market. At that time, the company had around 6.5 million customers.

UnipolSai , which belongs to the group, is the second largest insurance company in Italy after Assicurazioni Generali . It was created in December 2013 from the merger of the insurance companies Fondiaria-Sai with Milano Assicurazioni , Unipol Assicurazioni and Premafin . It started in 2014 and is listed in the FTSE MIB . The group is also active in the insurance sector with the companies Linear and Unisalute .
