The Davide Campari-Milano S. p. A. is an Italian beverage manufacturer based in Milan . The Gruppo Campari , are among the more subsidiaries, distributes spirits , wines and soft drinks worldwide in 190 countries. The company is listed in the FTSE MIB share index.

Company history

The company was founded in Milan in 1860 by Gaspare Campari , the developer of the original recipe for the Campari herbal liqueur and aperitif .

The company is named after Davide Campari , the founder's son.

In 1995 Campari took over the Italian division of the Dutch beverage group Lucas Bols . The company thus acquired brands such as Crodino , Cynar , Lemonsoda , Oransoda, Biancosarti and Crodo.

In 2012 Campari acquired the majority of shares in the Jamaican group of companies Lascelles deMercado and thus the rum brands Appleton , Wray & Nephew and Coruba for the equivalent of 350 million euros ; the transaction is the third largest takeover in Campari history to date.

In 2014, the Italian spirits manufacturer Fratelli Averna (also Gruppo Averna; brands Averna , Braulio, Grappa Frattina) was taken over for a purchase price of 103.75 million euros. In 2016, the Campari Group acquired control of Société des Produits Marnier-Lapostolle (SPML), owner of the Grand Marnier liqueur brand, for € 684 million (€ 8.05 per share in cash) , which had sales of € 152 million in 2015 scored. The Chilean wine business that was acquired was sold in early 2017. The Italian wine business had already been sold in 2016.

In October 2017, the company announced that it was selling its soft drinks division to Royal Unibrew for € 80 million . In December Campari announced the acquisition of Bisquit Cognac from Distell for 52.5 million euros.
