history
It was founded in 1867 under the company name Banca Popolare di Modena . In 1983 the company merged with the Banca Cooperativa di Bologna . In 1992, the Italian bank Banca Popolare di Cesena was taken over, the name was then changed to Banca Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna . Among other things, the company holds more than 75% of the shares in the bank.
In November 2014, BPER took over Banca Popolare del Mezzogiorno (BPMZ), Banca della Campania (BCAM) and Banca Popolare di Ravenna (BPRA) .
