The Italgas SpA is an Italian natural gas supplier based in Milan .

history

Italgas was founded in Turin in 1837 as Compagnia di Illuminazione a Gaz per la Città di Torino .

In 1933, Italgas, threatened with bankruptcy, was taken over by the Istituto per le Opere di Religione in Vatican City .

In 1967, Snam , a subsidiary of the Italian mineral oil and energy company Eni , became the majority shareholder of Italgas. In the following years, the company expanded rapidly and, in addition to its core business in the natural gas sector, moved into drinking water supply and waste management. However, these branches of business were given up again in favor of the natural gas supply.

In 2003, Eni took over 100% of the share package following a public takeover offer and took Italgas off the stock exchange. In 2009 Eni sold the company to its subsidiary Snam.

Italgas was spun off from Snam in 2016 and listed again on Borsa Italiana after 2003 .
