General Cable is a cable manufacturer based in Highland Heights, Kentucky . The company is the fifth largest cable manufacturer in the world by sales and goes back to the merger of 10 predecessors, including the Phillips Wire and Safety Cable Company , the Rome Wire Company and Standard Underground Cable in New Jersey in 1927. The chairman of the board is Gregory B. Kenny.

General Cable also owns the Carol , BICC and Anaconda brands . In 2007 General Cable took over the Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke (NSW) and, for $ 735 million, the cable division of Phelps Dodge . Phelps Dodge's raw materials division went to Freeport-McMoRan . In December 2017, the acquisition of General Cables by the Prysmian Group , the world's largest cable manufacturer, was announced. This was worth three billion US dollars and was completed on June 6, 2018. As a result of this acquisition, General Cable ceased its listing.
