Fargo was a Chrysler vehicle brand that was used almost exclusively for commercial vehicles . The Fargo trucks were very similar to the Dodge trucks, but with different exterior appointments and names. They were sold by Chrysler and Plymouth dealers. Production began in 1928 or the late 1920s.

The Fargo name disappeared from Canada in 1972, but Chrysler continued to use it in other countries in their badge engineering program. Most Fargo truck and bus chassis sold in Argentina , Finland , Australia , India and other countries in Europe and Asia were made at Chrysler's Kew, London facility . Most were sold as Dodge or Commer .

Theories about the origin of the name Fargo state that Chrysler wanted to remind of the vast Wild West , symbolized by the city of Fargo (North Dakota) and the Wells Fargo stagecoach line , others put a play on the word "far" (German: far) and “go” (German: go, drive), which should allude to the longevity of the vehicles.

The Fargo brand still existed in Turkey , where Fargo and DeSoto trucks were built by Askam until 2015.

Passenger cars

In 1928 some passenger cars were built . The Packet had a four-cylinder engine and the Clipper a six-cylinder engine . Both were available as sedans and station wagons.
