Automotive Standards , previously Automotive Electric Service Corporation , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Automotive Electric Service Corporation was based in North Bergen , New Jersey . In 1924 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Red Bug , unofficially also Auto Red Bug . Some vehicles were exported to Europe . In 1928 the name was changed to Automotive Standards . Production ended in 1930.

In March 1930, plans were announced that Indian wanted to continue production, but they were not implemented.

The offer was an extremely simple model. It was based on the Smith Flyer . Two bucket seats were mounted on a frame with a 157 cm wheelbase . The body and suspension were omitted. After all, the four wheels were covered by fenders .

The Flyer version was powered by a single-cylinder engine from Briggs & Stratton with 5 hp that drove a fifth wheel at the rear.

There was also the Electric as an electric car . An electric motor of North East at 12 volts operating at one of the rear wheels. This type of engine was used by Dodge to drive the starter . Both versions cost 150 US dollars .

Two surviving electric cars are on display at the Lakeland Motor Museum in the Lake District , England .
